Welcome Back Upward Bounders to a new school year! We hope everyone enjoyed their Summer Break and had time to relax! We had a great Summer Program this year and would like to say “thank you” to everyone who participated! We look forward to starting off a great Academic Year and seeing everyone’s smiling faces on our first Eagle Day at Carson Newman on September 23rd! You can be sure to start off your Academic Year strong by meeting with your Adviser, turning in all required paperwork and helping out with Recruitment anyway you can!
We also want to ensure that you are starting off your school year strong. These tips will help you keep everything on track all semester long by starting out organized, with a plan and with right goals in mind:
Check in with your guidance counselor
Checking in with your high school guidance counselor can help ensure that you are on the right track to graduation and help prepare you for college admission.
Set semester goals
Setting semester goals will help keep you focused on what you need to get done this semester and help you become successful.
Befriend your teachers (you’ll need recommendation letters soon!)
Map out deadlines, due dates and other important reminders in your Upward Bound Planner
Using your Upward Bound planner will help keep you organized and to keep you on track of important dates and deadlines. If you take the time to set it all up at once and get into the habit of continually updating it as necessary, it will become much easier to keep track of everything you need to remember.
Set up a study routine
Be sure to set aside a certain amount of time each evening for you to study. This will become very important in college and you will be a step ahead of the game!
Start researching colleges you’re interested in and create your MY College List
It is important to colleges that you continue to challenge yourself throughout your junior and senior year of high school. This shows the colleges that you are determined to better yourself!
Begin starting ACT Prep to help improve your ACT score! Check with your Adviser to help find ACT Prep material.
Connect with friends
Friends can help with your overall high school experience because they understand what you are going through! Also they make great study buddies!
