The Academic Year is Almost Over - Stay Motivated

April 13, 2017

With the year coming to an end and warm weather coming much earlier than in previous years, it can be easy to become distracted and lose focus on our goals and dreams. Stay organized, maintain adequate amounts of sleep, eat properly, and exercise when possible, but most importantly, don’t let things pile up. There’s nothing worse than allowing things to accumulate to the point that all of your free time has be dedicated to catching up.

One of the best ways to stay organized is to keep both a planner/calendar and a list. Prioritize tasks by the amount of time they will take to finish and when they are due. Like planning your schedules for the upcoming school year, you want to keep a balance. Not all of your difficult tasks need to be done together just like all of your difficult classes don’t need to be taken together.

Sleep is always important, but it’s most important when you are going on the downward slide of the school year. As weather begins to get warmer, the days get shorter. Those tranquil, early dark hours that allowed you to peacefully calm down before bedtime will soon become a fond memory. Get your more taxing tasks done earlier in the day and create a calming ritual prior to bedtime to ensure a good night’s sleep.

Nutrition is also important for momentum. Many of us don’t have health concerns that require a specialty diet, but we do have a food pyramid to follow for making healthy eating habits of few sugars and fats and lots of nutritious fruits and vegetables. While foods are important, hydration is also important. Make sure that you are drinking at least 8 ounces of water daily for every 15 pound you weight. This is important in maintaining healthy brain activity, bodily functions, and restful sleep patterns.

Exercise is also important. Sunshine creates an itching to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. Enjoy brisk walks early in the afternoon to gain energy you need for other tasks and to allow your body plenty of time to calm down before bedtime. Other enjoyable form of exercise include kickball games, soccer, tennis, aerobics, swimming, and dancing.

Most importantly, don’t let what you’ve worked for all year, all your life go by the wayside. Create a course of action for completing the tasks you need to accomplish and allow yourself plenty of time to get them done. There is nothing as frustrating as dropping the ball within an inch of your goals. Time passes quickly. Time passes regardless of how you spend it. It’s nice to look back at the things you’ve accomplished and to realize that you’ve spent your time doing something that will better you in the long run.

Keep your eye of the prize and finish this race called life as a victor! When you look back at life, you’ll be more upset about the things you didn’t finish than of those that you did.
