As we get ready to start a new school year in all the schools we serve, it's hard to believe summer program is behind us. They say time flies when you're having fun, and this summer is the epitome of that old saying as it FLEEEWWWWW by!
Students moved into their dorms on May 30th and began summer program. During the day they took classes in English 10-12, Literature, Algebra 2, Geometry, Trig/Pre-Cal, Spanish, French, Biology 2, Chemistry 1 and 2. This year's elective course offerings were Video Production, STEM Alternative Energy, STEM Engineering, College Survival, Romanian 101, Sports Management, Disney Lied, Theater History, and Acting. We also offered ACT Prep as well as a Priorities (non-cognitive) course. Bridge students took Human Biology and Political Science.
Beginning week 2, students were treated to a trip to the movies each Tuesday night, as well as a surprise trip to Dollywood on the half-way mark of week 3.
In the evening, students participated in families, capture the flag, Olympics, Talent Show, craft nights, rec etc.
We have definitely learned how to keep everyone busy.
This summer we had 12 work-study positions. Those lucky students selected to participate worked in one of the various offices at Carson Newman University. Not only did they work and earn money, they learned invaluable skills and knowledge on jobs, careers, interviews, resumes etc.
On July 1st, students moved out of the dorms and prepared for their trip to NYC on July 3rd.
While in New York, students visited Central Park, took a walking tour of Manhattan, saw Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, toured the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Chinatown, the 9/11 Memorial, Macy's, Times Square, and Ellis Island. Needless to say... we ALLLLLL had fun!
